A Time To Rethink The Priorities

After many months of attending meeting in George Best Belfast City Airport I have come to to the conclusion that far to much time is taking up by discussions on the noise of aircraft landing and on take off I have listen to many hours regarding this issue and I feel that other more important issues need to be discussed seems that the process has of discussion and debate has been hijacked by this topic and the need to move on to other issues is to the detriment of the Airport it seems that the agenda and its topics must be reviewed and other issues need to be discussed.

As a major airport like George Best Belfast City Airport it is clear that we will have noise like other airports it is only to be expected in running this type of operation  but it seems that we need to move on with this issue it is clear that Belfast City Airport is a vital peace of our infrastructure that brings jobs to an area of east Belfast that is crying out for work and investment, the need to have more debate in how we can use the asset must be of major importance to the surrounding areas such as Sydenham,Holywood,Helen's Bay, Cultra,And Bangor, for many months now I have visited these areas and the need for local business to become more involved in how the airport could market theses areas is vital to the economy of these small towns,

We need to look at how improvements can bee made to increase visitor numbers to them and to increase visitor numbers, yet in all the meeting that I have attended this issue has never been brought up as a topic for discussion yet it is vital to these small tows to increase visitor numbers for them to succeed every plane on its flight path to the airport should be viewed and seen as bringing visitor numbers to these towns yet it seems this is never looked at or debated if theses matters where on the agenda I am sure we would have more involvement from the business community in theses small town  the airport would then be looked on as a friend and theses areas would see a increase in visitor numbers,

We look to the Northern Ireland Tourist Board as are major voice to improve visitor numbers to Northern Ireland it is vital that any debates regarding the airport they need to give an input  in how best to market the airport and towns like Holywood, Crawford's Burn,Helen's Bays, its vital for the economy and for jobs in these areas it would open up a whole new tourist industry and improve the prospects of creating jobs where none exist at this time, other cities that have airports like Belfast use them to their benefit yet we seem to see it as the Emery and to try and limit its operations in every way yet the only place to change this mind set is being used to discuss noise.

George Best City Airport needs and should be involved in the planning of any new foot bridge that is  being built across the Sydenham by pass should be on the agenda with represitiives from the DOE in attendance to explain what type of bridge it will be and will it meet the need of the airport and its passengers  for to long this issue needs to be addressed to improve how passengers who want to travel on by train can do so wit out a major operation to do it the need for a link to the airport and the train is vital to the airport and its passengers yet we don't have any reps from Trans link or Northern Ireland Railways sitting on the committee yet the two groups are vital to each others interest and that the passengers they carry and working together to give them a much better experience.

George Best Belfast City Airport has for to long been the whipping post for to many with agendas that are to slow up and to compromise its existence and to compromise the jobs that it gives to people in Belfast its not just the jobs in the airport but its the jobs of the services it supplies as well the need to change the mindset of these people its vital to the airport to grow this can only be done by the help of other interested groups who we know as the silent majority the need for Business involvement from towns like Holywood and Bangor is vital to help them improve visitor numbers and the need for the involvement of other companies like Trans link and Northern Ireland Railways is vital to bring a better passenger experience to the traveling public its vital to both groups to become more involved wit the back up of the Belfast Tourist Board to promote small towns around the airport .

In many ways the committee seems to have got stuck in whats seems to be a debating chamber for only noise of aircraft or a runway extension the need to get out to the public its achievements is vital are small towns are under pressure and need support the very existence of a airport on their door steps should bring them a windfall of visitors and the people of Northern Ireland should be experiencing an upsurge in bed and breakfast in North Down.We only have to look at Manchester Airport to see just what it attracts to Manchester and how it has helped  the Manchester economy to grow and the city to rival London yet its situation is near Manchester's largest housing estate Whyenshaw and its flight path is over Whyenshaw but it fails to attract the press that Belfast City Airport has had regarding a runway extension yet it has increase the number of runways and the number of flights over Whyenshaw

Manchester Airport has increased passenger numbers and has extended the size of its airport and traveling experience to its passengers experience in many ways by more retail sites and a rail station at the airport this alone is a major bonus for the airport as passengers can use both rail links and bus services to get to Manchester or other destinations it show just how the airport working with other passenger groups brings big benefits to the passenger experience and now that vital link will be greatly improved by the opening of the Manchester Tram link that will carry passengers to any part of Manchester City Centre yet Belfast City Airport has got such a great asset on its door step like the Rail Link to Bangor,Derry,Dublin, but its not capitalized on we also see that in the lack of a bus station at Belfast City Airport to link the airport to other towns, theses are all vital to improve the passenger experience,

The need for issues like this need to be addressed for good of the travelling public and for the expansion of the airport the need to rethink the priorities and to change the mindset of the press and council needs to be achieved the need to have a much border committee that includes all interests including the the Hospitality Industry,Business,Train and Bus Services,Councilors from smaller towns and Belfast Chamber of Commerce
